Sustainability
The Ashleys Art is committed to sustainability and will always choose a responsibily sourced and made raw material or service over one which is not.
Fine Art Paper:
We use ARCHES Watercolour papers for our original works and also for our Fine Art Printmaking. Apart from it being an amazing Paper to work with, it is also made from 100% recycled cotton.
This has led to the ARCHES paper mill to be the first paper mill awarded the SCS Global Services’ environmental certification recognising ARCHES’s commitment to Sustainable Development.
The ARCHES range of Fine Art Papers has been awarded Recycled Content Certification by SCS Global Services.
The certification recognises its composition as follows: Pre-consumer recycled material: linters are the fine, silky fibres on the seeds in the cotton flower. Linters are a by-product of cotton with no use in textile manufacturing, but which are a precious ingredient in paper making. Post-consumer recycled material: This is the material produced by the recycling of waste paper at the Arches paper mill. All the paper that is unfit for sale is recycled. This material is then returned to the production process.
Art Materials:
We use Canson Australia and Jasco Australia as our source of Fine art Papers, Surfaces and Boards and Media.
All Fine art Papers, Surfaces and Boards are made from cotton or responsibly sourced plantation timbers.
Canson and Jasco are both committed to sustainability and ethically responsible business practices.

Sustainable Printmaking:
We use legacy printmaking techniques developed by ourselves over many years to enable us to create artist made Fine Art Prints. We use exactly the same cotton watercolour paper we use for all our original watercolours – Arches Aquarelle. This means that we achieve a Sustainably made Fine Art Print of exceptional quality, almost indistinguishable from our original works, and having an extreme longevity of 100yrs plus. All equipment is maintained by ourselves using recycled parts and our inks are from remaindered supplies. We treat the finer printmaking details as propriety.
